Student Success

We want our students to not only make a living, but to make a life. Student success is at the heart of all we do

Remote Classes

Aimed at serving and meeting the unique needs of adult learners, we offer small class sizes and the convenience of classes offered nights and online

Academics

A wide range of academic and professional programming at the baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral levels

Astronomy

The Department of Astrophysical and Planetary Sciences is one of the few programs that combines both astrophysics and planetary science, providing a unified view of space sciences; the solar system and comparative planetology; stellar and galactic astronomy; and cosmology. Students are given hands-on experience with telescopes, optics, instrumentation, and computer image processing and modeling. The general astronomy track lends itself to a career in education, science journalism, science policy, information technology, science management, or technical work where a graduate degree is not required. Our PhD program allows graduate students to practice teaching, assist in cutting-edge research, and begin to take part in the larger professional astrophysics community.

Chemistry

The Chemistry Department offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Chemistry. Our undergraduates have the option of obtaining an ACS-certified B.S. in Chemistry. We graduate around 40 B.S. Chemists each year. Our graduate degree program is a research-intensive program with an emphasis on coursework required for in-depth training in a particular project. We also emphasize interdisciplinary training to prepare our graduates for multiple career paths. Through our links, you can find out about both our undergraduate and graduate programs, how to apply for admission, the curricula offered, and the research interests of our faculty.

Computer Science

Welcome to the Department of Computer Science. Established in 1984, the department has a growing, dynamic, research-oriented faculty who take great pride in their longstanding record of excellence in research and in undergraduate and graduate education. Computer science deals with the logical and mathematical foundations of computing and how to implement problem solutions as programs in a computer language. The computer science curriculum covers the design principles of key computing technologies such as hardware, operating systems, database systems, networks, graphics, and artificial intelligence. Mathematical reasoning is emphasized throughout the program.

Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics offers four degrees: Bachelor of Science (B.S.), Master of Arts (M.A.), Master of Applied Mathematical Sciences (M.A.M.S.), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), as well as a Double Dawgs 5-year program which combines the B.S. and M.A. in Mathematics. We, the faculty of the Department of Mathematics, aim to provide an inclusive departmental culture that welcomes and respects all members of the mathematical community. Providing a safe environment and a nurturing atmosphere for our students is a foundational part of our departmental mission in teaching and research. Harassment and discrimination have no place in our department.

Science Education

Recognized as a national research leader in the field of science education, this department combines the expertise of its internationally known faculty with the energy and innovation of its rising young scholars. The department has one of the largest and most respected groups of science education faculty in the world. All of our prominent researchers teach doctoral courses and direct doctoral dissertation studies. Our researchers also teach undergraduate courses, implementing knowledge generated through their research.
